It's the first place I go and the first thing I eat when I visit Baton Rouge. I wish I could be riding through there with you - I love the food in that part of the country!

The tire problem sucks, but glad it wasn't a big deal for you guys! I always keep duct tape with me on my rides for various emergencies. . .I take a short pencil or other small, thin cylinder-shaped thing and wrap a few feet of duct tape around it to have on my trips. I once needed it when I was 40mi from anywhere, and a stick caught in my rear spokes while I was cruising down a hill at about 50mph. My rear wheel locked-up instantly and I smoked through the tire and the inner tube like melted butter.

I had another inner tube, but the tire was completely shot, and I had a long ride before I was going to see any civilization.

So I cut up the old inner tube, then lined the 5inch hole in the tire with the old tube parts, and then I put the new inner tube in the tire.

I pumped the inner tube up a little bit, and then I took out my duct tape. I wrapped the duct tape around the wheel and the hole in the tire in the same way you wrap handle bar tape around the handle bars. This meant I had to open my rear brake, and couldn't use it since the duct tape covered the wheel rims, but I was able to pump the tire up to about 80psi, and ride it for 40mi to the next bike shop. The tape wasn't even that worn - I could probably have ridden it for another 40mi. . .

Check out my FB pic for how it looked. . .

So glad you guys are having fun and meeting some cool people out there! And eating some good food too. The main reason I ride is so I can eat all the food I want :)Erichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03518162744851326525noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1606746737782644936.post-33030744345249620012011-03-11T14:15:13.977-08:002011-03-11T14:15:13.977-08:002 boxes of cookies - food of champions!
